Biology and ecology studies

Eco-cartographies

Delimitation of the extensions of each ecosystem of the studied areas, by using bathymetric, morphological and oceanographic parameter data and, especially, through direct sampling by divers specialised in marine biology.

The materials and ecosystems found on the sea bottom can be reliably classified through sea-bottom analysis software; this way, it is easier to study those depths that are inaccessible for divers.

Bionomics

Direct studies of the individuals found in each ecosystem. We use standard methodologies in order to be able to compare our results with studies of other organisations and centres. In order to minimize the impact of divers on the ecosystem, any alterations of the bionomic results and the subjectivity of the observation, we use submarine video systems, guided from the surface or by the divers themselves.

These bionomic data are the basis for environmental impact studies (EIS), the determination of the ecosystems’ status, environmental surveillance plans, etc.

State of conservation of ecosystems and species. Coastal management

With a thorough study of the ecosystems over a longer period by means of eco-cartographies and bionomics and the knowledge of external factors - generally due to human actions that interfere with them – it is possible to define the state of conservation and development of an ecosystem, generate the necessary information to edit protection guidelines and project a controlled use of the coast.
